A cocktail that is pretty much a fail-safe when it comes to party hosting has to be the margarita. What's not to like—they've got citrus, salt and, of course, tequila! Plus, there are about a million and one (possible exaggeration) different types of margaritas. We recently mixed up this spicy variation and are totally digging it. We definitely recommend you kicking back with some friends one of these summer days and mixing one up!
Spicy Grapefruit Margarita
serves 2
Ingredients
2 ounces fresh lime juice (about 2 limes)
2 teaspoons light agave nectar or simple syrup
2 thinly sliced jalapeño rounds (small, but mighty)
4 ounces grapefruit juice (about 1 large grapefruit)
4 ounces 100% agave blanco/silver or reposado tequila
Kosher salt
Chili powder
Lime wedges
Grapefruit wedges
Directions
First, prep your glasses. Mix together about 3 parts salt and 1 part chili powder on a flat plat. Run a lime wedge around the rim of your glasses—a bit of water works too if limes are running low. Then, gently roll the rim in the chili-salt mixture for a generous, but not overwhelming salted rim. Set aside.
Next, combine the lime juice, agave nectar/simple syrup and jalapeño slice in a shaker. Tip: be sure to remove any jalapeño seeds before adding the pepper to your shaker. Use a muddler to crush the jalapeño and release the spice. Once muddled, add your grapefruit juice and tequila. Finally, top the shaker off with ice and shake well.
Strain the cocktail over ice into the salted glasses on standby. Garnish with a custom stir stick and grapefruit wedges! Enjoy!
