Celebrating Dad’s BIG 6-0 with nothing other than a SURPRISE party to knock him off his rocker. We decided to surprise him, not only with our presence but with a professionally hosted game of trivia! All questions were topics of interest to the guest of honor. These included Star Wars, Star Trek, Wisconsin history, the year 1957 and Packers football, to name a few. We obviously made him play on his own team. He totally won on his own, by the way—not surprised.
After my dad’s love of trivia, his second love would probably be beer. So, our game was hosted at the Plank Road Pub in De Pere, WI. Prizes were awarded in the form of gift certificates to the bar, as well as custom can coolers with an award ribbon design. I ordered the can coolers from For Your Party, where I was able to pair my own art with fonts the site offered. It was so easy to upload the design I had created previously. Then, I added some fonts found on the site to the back of the can cooler. There were many fonts to choose from, so it was easy finding something that complemented the front design. Oh, and I loved that they could be printed in gold, silver and copper (bronze) to go with the “trophy” theme.
We kept décor fairly simple since the space was shared with regular patrons. We made three balloon columns with designer balloons that said YAY and Woo Hoo! They were used to help mark the food and cake area. Plus, what says party like balloon bouquets!
I also made personalized square coasters with shiny bright teal writing to embellish and mark our reserved tables. My dad went home with the spares for his at-home bar. The coasters held up well after being used, and he is now stocked for life.
We had so much fun planning and celebrating this old guy’s milestone. Here’s to many more years of cheers and beers!
